He walks around your home screen.
An Egolino lives right on your home screen, above your icons. Grab him, drop him, or leave him be. Android only: he needs one permission from you to show up there.
Egolino / On your home screen
I dreamed of a long way down into a soft, dark landscape.
A real sentence from a test run, translated.
THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
WHAT HE DOES OUT THERE
He moves
He walks, climbs and sits down on his own. Throw him and he falls, lands and gets back up.
You can grab him
Drag him wherever you like and let go. He lands and carries on.
He writes it down
What he gets up to ends up in his diary. You can read it in the app.
WHY ONLY ANDROID
Android lets an app show something above other apps if you allow it. That permission is called “display over other apps”, and you switch it on yourself. Switch it off, and he stays in his room in the app.
An iPhone doesn't allow this kind of figure on the home screen. The iPhone version comes later.
WHAT YOU NEED
An Android phone with Android 9 or newer, and the permission above. The app itself asks for it when you let him out.
QUESTIONS
Does he get in the way?
You can drag him aside. If you take back the permission, he stays in the app.
Is this the same as a desktop pet?
A little figure that runs around on your screen, yes. The difference is the diary and the AI behind him: you can talk to him and read what he wrote.
Which permission does he need?
“Display over other apps”. Android asks you when you let him out, and you can take it back in the settings.
